Trump orders the destruction of any Iranian boats that provoke American ships.
US President Donald Trump revealed, on Wednesday, that he had ordered the US Navy to destroy any Iranian boat if it provoked or annoyed US ships.
"I have ordered the U.S. Navy to strike and destroy any Iranian naval vessel provoking our ships at sea," Trump wrote on his official Twitter account.
The Pentagon said that a week ago, Tehran had conducted "dangerous maneuvers" at sea, and Washington said that 11 speedboats of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards "approached several times" of 6 American warships that were on a monitoring mission in the Persian Gulf, according to "AFP.
A US military statement said that at some point, Iranian boats approached 10 yards from the "Maui" ship, which is affiliated with the US Coast Guard.
On Sunday, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards admitted that it had a confrontation with American warships in the Gulf.
Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated significantly since Washington decided in May 2018 to withdraw from the international nuclear agreement signed with Tehran in 2015 and reimposed major economic sanctions on it, as the matter was further exacerbated after the killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad in January.
